Drive Your Porsche Day

The Sunday closest to Dr Porsche's Birthday, this started out as "Drive Your 356 Day". This will be the 14th year, of the drive. In recent years what used to be a 356 event has morphed into Drive Your Porsche Day, so bring a 356, a Boxster, a 911, a 914, or what ever name/number Porsche you have and enjoy the day. No reservations, just an easy going fun drive, with great people. Be prepared for changeable weather. Remember to take lots of great pictures!

The Santa Cruz Tour will be starting at 9am (come early and have coffee) at Cost Plus/World Market, River St. Santa Cruz near Highway #1. Following Highway #9 to the parking lot at Skyline/#35, where at 10am. we will meet up with a group from the South Bay. Then North on #35 to Skywood, junction of #84, for a quick stop and meet up about 10:30. Then off to Half Moon Bay Brewery for lunch about 12:30. Join us along the route or at the brewery. Return trip will be down the coast, with an optional stop in Pescadero.

26-27

Mendocino Tour

Hosted by Bill and Gwen Jacobson on Friday and Saturday - September 26 and 27. Friday night you are on your own for dinner, Saturday will be a bar-b-q lunch (BYOB) at the Jacobson's starting about 11:30, and dinner reservations have been made at Silver's at the Wharf in Ft. Bragg for 7:30. 12 rooms have been blocked out at the Beachcomber Motel. These will be held until August 25th and then those not rented will be released. Individuals must make their own reservations (1-800-400-7873, email). Please notify Bill Jacobson (707-937-2432, email) if you are attending so we have a good count for our Saturday dinner. As usual, a contingent from the coast will drive over on Friday and meet you on Hwy. 101 for a lunch gathering at Francis Ford Coppola's Winery, just south of Geyserville on the west side of Hwy 101. (300 Via Archimedes, Geyserville, 95442) No pets allowed beyond parking lot and there is no shade in the parking lot (tiny trees).

Take the Independence Lane turn off and turn left under the freeway if you are coming from the south. The winery has a lot of his movie memorabilia including the Tucker auto from the movie of that name. This will not be a picnic area. They have the Rustic restaurant and the Pool Café. The food is good and prices are reasonable. I will not make any reservations as we will be arriving at varying times and I think it will be smoother to eat in small groups. The route from the winery to Mendocino will be Hwy 101 to Hwy 128 at Cloverdale, west to Flynn Creek road, on to Comptche and into Mendocino.

(For those of you coming over from the Sacramento area - if you are taking Hwy. 128 turn LEFT when you reach Geyserville. Go to the end of that road and rather than getting up on the freeway go straight and under the freeway where you will take another LEFT. That will take you right to the entrance of Coppola Winery. You will be on a road that parallels the freeway. If you are coming over Hwy. 20 you will have to go south, passing Ukiah, Hopland, Cloverdale and Geyserville before you come to Independence Lane.)
